Sushi is the most famous Japanese dish around the world as many of the main ingredients found in sushi are in fact very healthy and are beneficial to your health. Raw fish and rice, the main ingredient in rolls and sashimi, is full of protein,vitamins, minerals and carbohydrates due to the presence of fish, egg, vegetables. The main reason why sushi foods are so popular is that they are cost effective and available in various varieties, nowadays sushi is usually enjoyed on special occasions, such as a party or celebration.

A typical serving of sushi consists of 8 to 10 pieces, which is around 350 to 400 calories. Salmon especially used in sushi is very high in protein and Omega 3 Fatty acids, as well as seaweed and rich is used very rich in iodine and complex carbs. There are many different types of sushi. Some popular ones are:

Sashimi - Raw fish fillets served without sushi rice. It is usually sold in sets of three slices per order.

Nigiri - A roll of sushi rice topped by a piece of fish or vegetable. The topping can be raw, cooked or marinated. And it is all held together by a small band of seaweed, or nori, wrapped around the rice and fish. To add extra flavor, some sushi bars add a bit of wasabi beneath the fish.

Norimaki - Sushi rice and seafood, etc. rolled in dried seaweed sheets. There are countless varieties of sushi rolls differing in ingredients and thickness. Sushi rolls prepared "inside out" are very popular outside of Japan, but rarely found in Japan.

Inari - Inarizushi is a simple and inexpensive type of sushi, in which sushi rice is filled into aburaage (deep fried tofu) bags.

Temaki - Temakizushi (literally: hand rolls) are cones made of nori seaweed and filled with sushi rice, seafood and vegetables.
